Moura Hotel - Borovets, Bulgaria

In late December 2009 we stayed at the Moura Hotel in Borovets, whilst on a snowboarding holiday to Bulgaria. The hotel is in a reasonable location just a short up hill walk to the Gondola and close to a couple of bars, restaurants and a supermarket.

The Moura hotel is small and has basic facilities. The rooms have clean modern decor and are equipped with ensuite toilet, shower, TV and fridge. The only problem with our room was that the extractor fan in our bathroom did not work, although none of the other members of our party had this problem.

There is an internet area close to reception and free wifi is available for those who have the equipment to use it. There is also a bar, restaurant and nightclub. We only ventured down stairs to the nightclub once and found a few men sitting around listening to loud music, it wasn't exactly kicking! We found the bar to be quite good with, comfy sofas friendly staff and 3 hours of cocktail happy hour from 8 til 11.

The food consisted of a buffet breakfast, which would have been much better if some of the English guests had stopped their kids from touching everything! The same problem occurred in the evening with the buffet starter and dessert, but I can't hold it against the hotel as it wasn't really their fault. The buffet food on the whole was good, the main meals were a little bit strange but all edible: sausage and beans; plain omlet; meat balls and chips; goulash; mushroom rice. The Gala dinner on new years eve was great with plenty of wine, vodka and champagne to go around. They even put on some traditional bulgarian dancers and musicians as entertainment. We all headed up to the slopes for a fireworks display at midnight, on the whole it was a great night.

I would recommend the Moura hotel to anyone who is looking for a smaller hotel in a quiet location, and who doesn't require a wide range of facilities on site. The Moura is suitable for families, groups and couples. On the negative side the walls are thin and the lift is noisy. Those who are fussy about their food should probably look for a large hotel with more than one restaurant or with self catering facilities.
