The Slopes

Kimberley has one long blue floodlit slope that runs from the top of the North Star Express chair right back to the base area. This is the only part of the resort that is open for the night boarding, which takes place Thursday Friday and Saturday nights. The front side of the resort is where the majority of the blue runs and low density glades can be found. Beginners should be happy with the variety of runs available to them here.

From the top of the main slope other areas of the mountain can be accessed, these are the more intermediate and advanced areas. Head off towards the Easter and Tamarack chairs to find a couple of steeper blues, lots of black runs and plenty of glades.

For the more advanced riders there are only 4 double black runs but plenty of challenging glades all around the resort. There are plenty of natural hits around the mountain but there are no kickers in the park. Other than that there is very little on offer so you may struggle to get your kicks here for more than a week or 2.

The Nightlife

Apart from the night boarding there is not that much to do at the resort in the evenings, the pub closes at around 6pm most nights, which leaves the Marriott bar and Kelseys restaurant. A regular bus runs to and from downtown in the evenings and a taxi service is available for later at night.

There are a few shops, pubs and restaurants in town most of which are around the Platzl where the bus picks up and drops off. Another popular evening activity here is watching the local junior hockey team, Kimberley Dynamiters, playing down at the local rink.

The city of Kimberley is located in the south east corner of British Columbia around a 4hour drive from Calgary. The platzl in downtown has a Bavarian theme and is the best place to go for a choice of shops, bars and restaurants.

In general the nightlife here is poor, but the riding is good especially for those who like glades. I would recommend it for all levels of riders, including those with young children. However for those of you who like big jumps, plenty of vert or a kicking nightlife this is not the place for you.
