Åre is northern Europe's largest ski area and as such has plenty to offer snowboarders of all levels. The resort is divided into 4 main areas Duved, Tegefjäll, Åre By & Björnen. Duved & Tegefjäll are linked by lifts and runs as are Åre By & Björnen a regular free ski bus runs on 3 routes that cover the whole resort very well. The 3 routes meet at Åre By right at the centre of the resort.
The areas of Duved, Tegefjäll, & Björnen are great for those looking for uncrowded slopes, short lift queues, clean easy runs and some great tree riding opportunities. Åre By is for the more serious rider that is happy to be a little more patient in the lift queues in order to access world cup blacks, awesome parks, challenging reds and some clean riding above the tree line.
The main nightlife in Åre Sweden can be found in Åre village right at the heart of the resort. Duved, Tegefjäll & Björnen have very little in the way of nightlife except for the various hotel bars and restaurants. Åre By (Åre village) is the centre of the activity with many shops, bars, restaurants and night clubs. Be warned though high taxes coupled with ski resort prices can make for a very expensive night out.
Åre is located in the Åre Municipality, Jämtland, Sweden. The nearest airport is in Östersund located around 80km to the east. Regular buses and trains run from the city of Östersund to Åre during the winter season. This ease of access to and from the resort is great for shopping if you need to get away from the resort prices. It is also possible to get a train or bus from Stockholm to Åre although this is a 600km journey so be prepared for a long ride.
